First Presbyterian to Host Work-Camp Groups
As part of our our goal to "embrace our downtown location and its opportunities for mission and ministry," in 2009 the Session has adopted a plan to host work camp groups in the summer. A Work Camp Implementation Task Force was created, showers were installed, rooms were identified for sleeping, cooking, worship, and reflection. In the summer of 2010 we hosted two work camps, one from Indiana and one from Delaware. In 2011 we hosted a workcamp from Cliffton Presbyterian Church in Maxwelton, WV. We continue to meet with local agencies to discuss various kinds of work that needs to be done that would benefit low income and senior citizen households in the community. Plans are under way to partner with West Virginia Mission Advocacy and Work Camps Group (WVMAW) to host at least two work camps in the summer of 2012.
